Andreas Hagman, ISM16 student

My name is Andreas Hagman, was born 1994 in Stockholm and have lived there since. I previously worked with payment terminals as a technical support with a focus on up-selling. But then I felt like it was time for me to move on with my career, even though I really loved my job and colleagues.

I left Stockholm, my job, family, friends and colleagues to go to university in a town where I knew no one and had no clue what outcomes that were ahead of me. The only thing I knew was that this was something I wanted, that at the moment, nothing was holding me back. It was a tough choice to make. However, applying for this university is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, period.

I’ve gained so much knowledge about different subjects connected to sales and marketing that gives me a foundation that will help me strengthen my abilities later, when I start working. I think the courses have a good combination between the academic studies and the practical aspect due to that we learn for example how to conduct researches, how to write articles and theses as well as how to gather reliable information combined with how to influence customers and how to provide a product or service that is attractive and different from others.

But I must say that the best thing about this year has been meeting new people and friends. We’ve had a wonderful year together and due to the small school and small town, we’ve come each other very close, something that bigger schools can’t compete with. I’m a social person that value friendship and close relationships high so this was a perfect match for me. I’ve made new friends for life, got new experiences, and are one step closer to my goal, that to me, is invaluable.

This summer I will spend time with my family, work at my old job, meeting my old friends and hopefully, start volunteering in Peru for a month. This is because I’ve always wanted to travel and see other cultures and I don’t think there’s a better way than just volunteering to meet natives and live as the people live. In 2018, I’m traveling to Central America, Nicaragua for my studies abroad.

Best regards, Andreas Hagman ISM16
